Welcome to Sanford and Son, an organization (guild) in the kickstarter PC game, Star Citizen, by legendary game and movie producer, Chris Roberts!
Chris Roberts developed the Wing Commander franchise, and is currently building what amounts to a gigantic, living, breathing MMORPG universe set in the distant future. One that allows for exploration of planetary surfaces, along with seamless first person movement around individual ships that themselves may house up to 80 or more active players. A universe which allows you to choose your destiny, be it operating as a deep space miner, refueler, transport ship captain, pirate, mercenary, police officer, trader, you name it, the choice is yours. Become a marine aboard a ship and run into a launch vehicle with your friends in an attempt to force entry into another group's ship, with the intent to take them over- commandeering their ship or their cargo! Live life as an explorer, peacefully scouting out jump points and landing on undiscovered worlds, traversing the land in your very own land rover. Bring back fauna and interesting new alien species for sale at an orbital space station, or a distant planetary colony. All of this, and more, is what Star Citizen encompasses.
Additionally, Star Citizen is the largest kickstarter effort ever, with a fully fan-funded base, which allows for a thriving community and enables the independent developers to truly develop a space sim for the people, by the people. Sorry, EA, you have NO POWER HERE.
Indeed, if you grew up on Wing Commander, and dreamt of the possibilities for a living universe in space, your dream has come true, and is coming to life before our eyes.
Sanford and Son is an organization within this universe that emphasizes light-hearted fun, and mature (21+) play styles. We want to encourage teamwork, organization and structure, while still emphasizing fun and enjoyment, without all the hassle of a fragmented, or drama-filled experience commonly seen in some larger guilds. We intend to be competitive, but our prime directive is teamwork, skill, participation, fun and exploration in the game universe, because if you aren't having fun above all, then why play! :-)
Our org's focus will initially be resources (salvage/mining, etc.) and exploration. As we progress, we will undoubtedly hone our skills at PvP and space combat. Indeed, we are incredibly well-stocked for such a small org, already with an LTI Javelin destroyer and LTI Idris-P in our posession (in addition to almost every other type of ship currently available). Depending on the decisions we make in-game, these capital ships may be outfitted for roles other than combat, such as exploration, resupply and so on. Given that Star Citizen ships are highly modular, any number of emergent play styles could present themselves, and we are very excited to one day fully crew and outfit these ships in various ways.
At the outset, we are looking to keep our org fairly small, with no more than 35 members or so. Once we have established a tight-knit core of folks who work well together, we will branch out and begin to slowly recruit selectively. Initial selection will also be somewhat focused, as we want to make sure you are the right fit for us, and vice versa. Don't let this discourage you from applying. We are very open minded and accepting, though we want to take care to bring in those individuals that mesh best with us. We think this mindset will work very well for our future long term viability.
